Project Overview
Perry & Associates was commissioned by SunPower as architect and structural engineer of record for the design of a reception center and the solar panel pier foundations for this 40 acre site in South Chicago. The state-of-the-art reception center is the centerpiece of the planned development. A stairway at the east side of the structure leads to a green roof observation deck. Jacobs/Ryan Associates was the landscape architect consultant.
ABC Channel 7 featured the project as “Chicago is the home of the largest, big city solar generating plant in the country – south side solar plant to power 1,500 homes”. Exelon City Solar was recognized by McGraw Hill as project of the year in the Midwest in the public works category. At the American Council of Engineering Companies (Illinois Chapter) Annual Award Ceremony, the Exelon City Solar project was given the highest Honor Award – Category: Energy.
Perry & Associates was commissioned by Exelon to perform the architectural and MEP supporting documentation for LEED Certification of the reception center. Silver Certification was granted by the USGBC.
