Feasibility Study
Project Overview
Perry & Associates was asked to review the feasibility of installing new electrical equipment, rooftop satellite dishes and raising the roof to accommodate a studio space in a multi-tenant office building constructed in the 1900’s as a warehouse.
The equipment area is located on the 8th floor and roof of the building. The structural system in the region of study consists of 2-way seven inch cast in place concrete slabs and girders. The electrical equipment consists of three items: a UPS unit weighing 3,050 lbs, a battery unit weighing 5,000 lbs, and an auxiliary cabinet having a weight of 700 lbs.
Structural calculations were provided that indicated that the 8th floor existing concrete structure and roof structure were adequate for the building Chicago Building Code required loading and the additional load of the equipment.
